WRX Atlanta – 5 Seasons Meetup 6/24
Alexander is finally getting involved in the Atlanta Subaru community!
Living in Atlanta I’ve noticed that there is never a shortage of things to do, though at times it seems like they’re all impossible to find, so people seem to find themselves doing the same things day in and day out. Going to the same restaurants and hanging out at the same places. Almost all the good things to do in Atlanta rely on word of mouth. I was never one to actively seek out new things to do. I have my routine and I stick with it.
That all changed when I purchased my Subaru. I was informed by one of my co-workers that I should join wrxatlanta.com. It didn’t take me long to notice the post about biweekly meetups. Of course I had to see what these meetups were like. After all I don’t see very many WRX or STI’s rolling around so I wondered if there was even enough owners to have an Atlanta WRX meetup.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I left home. As I was leaving I noticed dark storm clouds rolling in. And just as I was pulling into the parking lot, the heavens opened. I circled a bit in the rain before spotting my Subaru brethren and fortunately there was covered parking.
I was welcomed warmly by the group and introductions were made all around. Several others were joining for the first time as well. We ended up spending roughly the next 2 hours just standing in front of our cars talking about anything and everything, obviously mostly our cars. We had something in common, a great starting point for any friendship. We did a lot of talking about the new 2015 STIs and definitely had some show and tell sessions. I was definitely intrigued by how deep and rumbly the exhaust note was compared to mine. I thought for sure it was an aftermarket SPT exhaust, but it was bone stock. It made my 2014 sound like a Camry in comparison.
Eventually we went inside and enjoyed some very good eats and lively conversation. The experience was enhanced by our attentive waiter who was definitely someone who knew the service industry very well. He was very good at what he did.
After dinner, we all went back and stood and admired our cars for another hour or so. Admiring clean engines, snapping pictures and noticing just how cramped racing seats really are.
Overall it was an awesome night. If you live in the Atlanta area I highly recommend you come to the meetups. Matt keeps the Meetup thread updated and includes maps and yelp reviews, that thread can be found here in the Get-To-Gethers thread. I can’t speak for other car manufactures, but I can definitely say the Atlanta Subie community is where I want to stay.
